There wasn't a lot of overall movement in the power rankings this week, but with 14 teams changing position, that doesn't mean the week lacked for thrills. We'll tackle that and more in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
Given its edge in the MaxPreps state rankings, a win looked likely for Riggs in its matchup against Spearfish. The team got that and then some. The final score between Riggs and Spearfish was a 54 - 14 blowout in Riggs's favor. The dominant performance adds to Riggs's intimidating total: it now has seven blowout victories so far this season. Junior Garrett Stout was a key playmaker for Riggs. One of the top players in the power rankings for the week, he threw for 150 yards and gained 71 yards on the ground.
No Stoppin 'Em
Canton and Sioux Valley went up, up, and away last week as they combined for the highest point total (68) among all power ranked teams. There's no need to mince words: Sioux Valley lost to Canton, and it lost bad. The score wound up at 54 - 14. One positive for Sioux Valley, at least, was the performance of Jaxton Schiller. The talented underclassman earned two touchdowns and 47 yards rushing the ball.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between O'Gorman (1st in the power rankings) and Lincoln (20th). The last time they met, O'Gorman really took it to Lincoln, winning 47 - 7. Can O'Gorman repeat its success? We'll find out this Saturday.
