After losing to the Camden County Bruins the last time they met, the Hertford County Bears decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Hertford County enjoyed a cozy 65-50 win over Camden County on Wednesday. Given Hertford County's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while Camden County is ranked 460th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hertford County was led to victory by Rimiez Williams and Keveon Rodgers. Williams scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Rodgers scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rodgers has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jayden Robinson, who scored ten points.
Camden County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Xzavior Wiggins, who scored 11 points along with two steals. J'ron Pendleton was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Hertford County has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Camden County, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hertford County will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Manteo at 8:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Manteo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 last Tuesday. As for Camden County, they will head out on the road to face off against Holmes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Holmes has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
