The Sunrise Mountain Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Metro Tech Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Sunrise Mountain sitting on five straight wins and Metro Tech on six.
With a playoff game on the line, Sunrise Mountain rose to the challenge on Thursday. They had just enough and edged the Colts out 2-1. Given Sunrise Mountain's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona soccer rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Buena is ranked 68th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sunrise Mountain was led to victory by the tag-team duo of
Luis Urias Garcia and
Kale Howell, who scored both of Sunrise Mountain's goals. The pair have combined for a total of 18 so far this season.
Meanwhile, Metro Tech stacked a fifth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard last Monday. They blew past South Mountain 4-1.
Sunrise Mountain has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4-2 record this season. As for Metro Tech, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1-1.
Sunrise Mountain came up short against Metro Tech when the teams last played back in January of 2018, falling 4-2. Can Sunrise Mountain avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
