On Tuesday, the Musselman Applemen faced the Jefferson Cougars in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Musselman took a 56-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jefferson. Musselman has struggled against Jefferson recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Musselman's loss came despite strong showings from Anden Santamaria and Gavin Mcclain. Santamaria scored 13 points along with five rebounds, while Mcclain scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Troy Woolaston, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
Jefferson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaiden Gladney led the charge by scoring 19 points along with three steals. Gladney is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Demarius Wallace, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds.
Musselman's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Jefferson, their win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Musselman will take on Spring Mills at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Spring Mills is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Jefferson, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Washington at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th.
