It was a good run, but the Alamo Heights Mules unfortunately witnessed the end of their 21-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 71-55 bruising from Highlands. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Alamo Heights came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while Highlands is ranked 835th).
Alamo Heights' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hayes Waddy, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Michael Terry, who scored 11 points.
Even though they lost, Alamo Heights smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Alamo Heights' defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins and brought them to 25-4. As for Highlands, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-18 record this season.
Alamo Heights will head out on the road to square off against MacArthur at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully MacArthur focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Friday. Highlands does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
