The Mattawan Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They took a 42-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lakeview. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Mattawan of the 46-18 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Mattawan lost, one person who can't be blamed is Delaney Elsmore. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. That was a full 44.1% of Mattawan's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Zhia Martin was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Mattawan's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Lakeview, their victory bumped their record up to 4-11.
Mattawan will look to defend their home court on Friday against St. Joseph at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Mattawan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Tuesday. As for Lakeview, they will head out on the road to square off against Portage Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Portage Central will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something Lakeview surely won't give up without a fight.
