Softball Recap: Chapel Hill's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Chapel Hill was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Hillside on Wednesday. The Tigers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Hornets a 17-0 shutout. Considering the Tigers have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Alexandra (Kes) Duncan was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Jillian Evans also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Chapel Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Chapel Hill moved to 6-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Hillside, they dropped their record down to 5-4 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Chapel Hill will venture away from home to square off against Riverside-Durham at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.71 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hillside, they will take on Southeast Raleigh at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
