Softball Game Preview: Danvers Falcons vs. Masconomet Regional Chieftains

The Danvers Falcons will head out on the road to challenge the Masconomet Regional Chieftains at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Danvers is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Danvers' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over Melrose. The Falcons not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 9, 2024.

Kyla Moroney and Skylar Coakley made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Moroney pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Coakley struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Moroney scored three runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances, while Coakley went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addi McCarty, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Alli McGinnity also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Masconomet Regional didn't have quite enough to beat Beverly on Friday and fell 8-6. The Chieftains have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Ally Kelter and Aimee Quimby did some serious damage despite the final result: Kelter scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Quimby scored a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Schaap, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

The win got Danvers back to even at 2-2. As for Masconomet Regional, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Everything went Danvers' way against Masconomet Regional in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Danvers made off with a 12-4 victory. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chieftains turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
