Garner is a perfect 6-0 against Apex since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Trojans will face off against the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Garner is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over Laney. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.
Gabriella Czuczuk made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Czuczuk was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gaby Mizelle, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 4-for-4. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bailey Radford, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Garner lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Apex took on East Chapel Hill on Friday. The Cougars blew past the Wildcats 11-5.
Audrey Mulauski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Leah Kendall was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren McMahon, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Apex's victory bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Garner, their win bumped their record up to 16-7.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Garner hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .375. However, it's not like Apex struggles in that department as they've averaged .353. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Garner's way against Apex when the teams last played back in April of 2021, as Garner made off with a 17-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
