Southwest Onslow is 0-2 against James Kenan since October of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Southwest Onslow Stallions will look to defend their home field against the James Kenan Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Southwest Onslow had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37 points), and they went ahead and made it three two weeks ago. They breezed by South Lenoir on the road to the tune of 50-0. Southwest Onslow pushed the score to 48-0 by the end of the third, a deficit South Lenoir had no chance of recovering from.
Southwest Onslow's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Darrold Dorsey, who rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries, and also picked up 87 receiving yards and a touchdown. Dorsey's longest reception was for an incredible 88 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kj Blue, who rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely James Kenan's strategy against North Lenoir on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that James Kenan blew North Lenoir out of the water with a 41-6 final score. Given James Kenan's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 156th, while North Lenoir is ranked 346th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Southwest Onslow's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 4-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.7 points per game. James Kenan has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Southwest Onslow suffered a grim 43-21 defeat to James Kenan in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Will Southwest Onslow have more luck at home instead of on the road?
