The Lutheran Lions were the 43-35 winner over the Chaparral Wolverines when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The matchup between the pair wasn't particularly close, with Lutheran falling 53-38. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while Chaparral is ranked 48th).
Berkley Schneider and Jayda Vigil certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Schneider scored 18 points along with seven rebounds, while Vigil scored 13 points. Mikaela-zoe Colon was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.
Chaparral found their leader in underclassman Lauren Thompson, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Thompson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Maddie Jenkins, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Lutheran and nudges their season record down to 1-5. As for Chaparral, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-1.
Lutheran will be home for the holidays to greet Ponderosa at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Ponderosa is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak. Chaparral will take on Legend in a holiday battle at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at. Legend is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
