It'll be Battle of the Birds when the Lake Minneola Hawks challenge the Legacy Charter Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday... Both are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Last Friday, Lake Minneola got the win against Hope Academy by a conclusive 77-53.
Lake Minneola's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Josiah Gillard, who went 7 of 9 on his way to 22 points and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrell Thomas, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 20 points and eight rebounds.
Lake Minneola smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Legacy Charter made easy work of Eau Gallie on Saturday and carried off a 61-41 win. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 218th, while the Commodores are ranked 563rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Legacy Charter found their leader in sophomore Trevor Miller, who went 10 of 13 on his way to 27 points and seven assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Miller has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrison Cooper, who posted nine points.
Legacy Charter has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Lake Minneola, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Lake Minneola and Legacy Charter are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Lake Minneola hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 65.2 points per game. However, it's not like Legacy Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 63.1 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Lake Minneola beat Legacy Charter 67-54 in their previous matchup back in December of 2018. Does Lake Minneola have another victory up their sleeve, or will Legacy Charter turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
