The El Dorado Aztecs''s eight-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Friday. They strolled past Socorro with points to spare, taking the game 52-35. The win was just what El Dorado needed coming off of a 38-0 loss in their prior match.
El Dorado found their leader in underclassman Ryan Estrada, who rushed for 188 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also picked up 87 receiving yards and a touchdown. Estrada was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. El Dorado also got help from Diego Carrasco who showed off his sure hands for 101 receiving yards.
Socorro's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Antonio Montes, who rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 175 yards and a touchdown. Adrian Acosta ll was another key contributor, gaining 121 total yards and a touchdown.
El Dorado's win bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Socorro, their loss was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8.
El Dorado will take on Montwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Montwood presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than El Dorado in Texas (Montwood is ranked 303rd, while El Dorado is ranked 761st). As for Socorro, they will head out on the road to face off against Coronado at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
