The Telluride Miners won against the Nucla Mustangs last Friday with 53 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Thursday. Telluride walked away with a 53-42 victory over Nucla. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Telluride.
Telluride's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Townes Merritt led the charge by scoring 18 points. Merritt has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. Grayson Berry was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Nucla's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brycen Rummel, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Rummel has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Steele Arnold, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Telluride has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Nucla, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Telluride will take on Caprock Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Nucla, they will head out on the road to face off against De Beque at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. De Beque will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
