Softball Recap: St. Pius X Wins Going Away Against Valencia

St. Pius X won the last time they faced Valencia and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Sartans put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 19-9 win. The result was nothing new for the Sartans, who have now won six contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Lilee Zarate made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off seven hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

In other batting news, Jordan Chavez was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Grady, who scored four runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

St. Pius X always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valencia only posted an OBP of .353.

The victory made it two in a row for St. Pius X and bumps their season record up to 8-12. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Valencia, they dropped their record down to 4-11 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Coincidentally, St. Pius X and Valencia will both be playing Highland the next time they take the field. The Jaguars will host the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Sartans will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
