The Calvert Senecas won the last time they faced the St. Mary Central Catholic Panthers, and things went their way on Thursday too. Calvert snuck past St. Mary Central Catholic with a 50-45 win. Given Calvert's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while St. Mary Central Catholic is ranked 622nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Gavin Wagner, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Rombach, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Calvert has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for St. Mary Central Catholic, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10.
Calvert will be playing in front of their home fans against Lakota at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Lakota is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for St. Mary Central Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Woodmore at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
