Basketball Recap: Sheets Memorial Christian Takes a Loss

After flying high against Southview Christian last Friday, Sheets Memorial Christian came back down to earth. The Sheets Memorial Christian Eagles received a blow on Tuesday as they fell 62-44 to the Asheboro Hybrid Academy Warriors. The Eagles have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Sheets Memorial Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jude Howell posted 11 points and five steals. Howell is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Aiden McMahan, who scored eight points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Sheets Memorial Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive matches.

Levi Gaskins was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 25 boards for Asheboro Hybrid Academy. That's the most rebounds Gaskins has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Seth Autry, who earned seven points along with seven steals and five boards.

Sheets Memorial Christian's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Asheboro Hybrid Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.

Sheets Memorial Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 85-50 defeat against North Hills Christian on the 30th. As for Asheboro Hybrid Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 79-58 loss against Gospel Light Christian on the 30th.
