North Thurston has won three straight games at home, while River Ridge has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Rams will host the Hawks at 4:00 p.m. North Thurston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.2 runs per game this season.
North Thurston had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Capital on Wednesday. The Rams were the clear victors by a 13-6 margin over the Cougars. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Syriahs Trolson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Giselle Thomas was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sara Halterman, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: North Thurston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 11 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, River Ridge won against Capital on Monday with nine runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Hawks walked away with a 9-6 victory over Peninsula.
Jaylah Sok Vandergriff made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lana Trinidad, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Raylie Birklid was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
River Ridge's win bumped their record up to 13-6. As for North Thurston, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. North Thurston hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. However, it's not like River Ridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .408. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
North Thurston suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to River Ridge in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Rams have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
