Basketball Recap: Brady Dorvil's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Highlands Christian over Berean Christian

Highlands Christian fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Berean Christian on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 86-78 to the Berean Christian Bulldogs. While the Knights didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 17-11 in the first quarter.

Highlands Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brady Dorvil, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Dorvil a new career-high in blocks (five). Another player making a difference was Angel Scomparin, who went 10 of 23 en route to 28 points and six steals.

Even though they lost, Highlands Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berean Christian only pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.

Leading Berean Christian to victory were Matthew Wall and Derek Vasquez. Wall dropped a double-double on 29 points and 11 boards, while Vasquez posted 32 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Vasquez has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Jaden Vasquez was another key player, putting up eight points along with seven boards and five assists.

Highlands Christian has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.2 points per game. As for Berean Christian, their victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-10.

Highlands Christian has already played their next contest, an 81-54 win against Sheridan Hills Christian on the 16th. As for Berean Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 67-58 victory against Seven Rivers Christian on the 17th.
