After losing to the Superior Wildcats the last time they met, the Smith Center Redmen decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Smith Center snuck past Superior with a 58-52 win on Monday.
Smith Center's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daveyon Orr, who shot 6-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Orr pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tegan McKenzie, who scored seven points along with six blocks and five rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Superior lost, one person who can't be blamed is Colten Butler. Despite the final result, he scored 27 points along with five assists and four steals. Butler is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mason Korb, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Superior were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Smith Center has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. As for Superior, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-18.
Smith Center will be playing in front of their home fans against Norton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Smith Center focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Monday. As for Superior, they will head out on the road to challenge Sandy Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Superior is coming into the contest with ten straight defeats on the road, meaning Sandy Creek will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory.
