The Wyalusing Valley Rams will head out on the road to face off against the Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wyalusing Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 368th, while Mount Carmel is ranked 121st).
Last Friday, Wyalusing Valley and Towanda were almost perfectly matched up, but Wyalusing Valley suffered an agonizing 15-14 defeat.
Meanwhile, Mount Carmel had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 46-13 win over Shamokin Area. Considering Mount Carmel has won seven matchups by more than 26 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Mount Carmel's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Luke Blessing led the charge by rushing for 168 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, and also picking up 39 receiving yards. Blessing was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Diaz, who rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries.
Towanda's victory bumped their season record to 7-3 while Wyalusing Valley's defeat dropped theirs to 5-5.
