Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Cardinal Newman Crusaders, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were beaten by the Lions 40-0 on Friday. Cardinal Newman's defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Davion Gause went supernova for Chaminade-Madonna, rushing for 149 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Gause was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 63 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Cedrick Bailey, who threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Chaminade-Madonna's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Zach Crothers was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Cardinal Newman's defeat dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Chaminade-Madonna, they have yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 12-0 record.
Cardinal Newman does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Chaminade-Madonna will play host again and welcome Archbishop Carroll, where kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Archbishop Carroll: 14.2, Chaminade-Madonna: 10.8) so any points scored will be well earned.
