The Mountain View Academy Mustangs and the KIPP San Jose Collegiate Wolfpack will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Mountain View Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Thursday.
Mountain View Academy struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Thursday (North Valley Baptist was 32% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Mountain View Academy had to suffer through a rough 74-46 loss at the hands of North Valley Baptist. It was the first time this season that Mountain View Academy let down their fans at home.
Despite the defeat, Mountain View Academy saw an underclassman step up: Caleb Penaflorida scored 21 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Penaflorida has scored all season. Christopher Mercado was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, KIPP San Jose Collegiate beat North Valley Baptist 57-50 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back wins for KIPP San Jose Collegiate.
Christian Ademe-Johnson and Jonathan Mendoza were among the main playmakers for KIPP San Jose Collegiate as the former scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals and the latter scored 17 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Ademe-Johnson hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Juan Ayala, who scored nine points along with 14 rebounds and two steals.
Mountain View Academy's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-4. As for KIPP San Jose Collegiate, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6.
Mountain View Academy took a serious blow against KIPP San Jose Collegiate in their previous matchup on Monday, falling 82-44. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Mountain View Academy was down 42-19.
