Softball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Covington's Ninth in Last Ten Outings

Covington barely beat Troy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Buccs blew past the Trojans 14-4 on Saturday. Considering the Buccs have won nine games by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Cassidy Iddings spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Elizabeth Coblentz was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Emalyn Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Covington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .560. They are 11-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Covington is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Troy, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 20-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Covington will head out to take on Riverside at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Troy, they will venture away from home to square off against Greenville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
