Baseball Game Preview: Preston Indians vs. Marsh Valley Eagles

Preston hasn't had much luck against Marsh Valley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Indians will be playing at home against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Preston comes in on three and Marsh Valley on nine.

If Preston beats Marsh Valley with ten runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Indians came out on top against Malad by a score of 10-5 on Tuesday. Preston's win was all the more impressive since the Dragons were averaging only four runs allowed on the season.

Conner Thomson made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Thomson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ezra Benavidez, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Levi Despain was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Preston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Malad only posted an OBP of .258.

Meanwhile, Marsh Valley posted their closest victory since April 24, 2024 on Tuesday. They skirted past Minico 10-9.

Preston's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Marsh Valley, their win bumped their record up to 9-0.
