Cooper is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with a 42-35 victory over Chapin. The win almost wasn't to be: the Cougars were down 24-7 in the second quarter.
It was another big night for Jaden Carrillo, who rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 193 yards and a pair of TDs. Jace Johnson was Carrillo's top target, picking up 92 receiving yards and two scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cooper was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 202 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 202 rushing yards in nine consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Argyle entered their tilt with Lovejoy on Friday with nine consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with ten. They breezed past the Leopards to the tune of 56-0. Considering the Eagles have won seven matchups by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Cooper better keep an eye on Maguire Gasperson. He was instrumental in Argyle's win, throwing for 308 yards and four touchdowns while completing 82.4% of his passes, and also punching in one TD on the ground. The dominant performance also gave Gasperson a new career-high in passer rating (162.4). Julian Caldwell was another key receiver, picking up 158 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Argyle's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Grayson Peschel, Nathaniel Bruce, and Liam Ladd, who each picked up one sack apiece. Argyle got some further help from Peschel: he picked up a sack and made 12 total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Cooper's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Argyle, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Cooper has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 284.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Argyle struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 217.4 rushing yards.
