The Bay Rockets were the 74-71 winner over the Lutheran West Longhorns when they last played one another back in February of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. Bay had to suffer through a rough 80-44 loss at the hands of Lutheran West. Bay was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-18.
Bay's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Evan Alexy and Malachi Coursen. Alexy scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and two steals, while Coursen scored nine points. Collin Melvin was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
Bay's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-8. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Lutheran West, their victory bumped their record up to 14-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bay will take on Avon Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lutheran West, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Archbishop Hoban at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Archbishop Hoban will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 85th, while Lutheran West is ranked tenth).
