The Gary West Side Cougars will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Whiting Oilers at 7:00 p.m. Gary West Side is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
Last Saturday, Gary West Side lost to Highland at home by a decisive 46-27 margin. While losing is never fun, Gary West Side can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 380th, while Highland is ranked 150th).
Meanwhile, Whiting scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They came out on top against Hammond Bishop Noll by a score of 69-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Whiting to victory, but perhaps none more so than Victoria Velez, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Velez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Quinones, who scored 25 points.
Gary West Side's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Whiting, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-11-1.
