Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Leyden ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Maine South and snuck past 8-7.
Like Whitney Young, Leyden also got a great game from a two-way player: Elise Bertsche. She tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bertsche was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs.
Bertsche wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carmen Richardson, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.
