The Hawken Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They lost to Chagrin Falls at home by a decisive 43-28 margin. While losing is never fun, Hawken can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 719th, while Chagrin Falls is ranked 293rd).
Several Hawks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Julia Scales, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. Scales scored a full 46.4% of Hawken's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Cicerini, who scored six points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Lilly Stukus was her usual excellent self, scoring 26 points along with seven rebounds and six steals for Chagrin Falls. The matchup was Stukus' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Elena Goodwin, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.
Hawken bumped their record down to 1-9 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Chagrin Falls, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-4.
Hawken will be playing in front of their home fans against Berea-Midpark at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Chagrin Falls is on the road again on Saturday and play against Aurora at 1:00 p.m. on January 13th.
