Mesquite has won six straight games at home, while Cactus Shadows has won six straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Wildcats will host the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Mesquite will be strutting in after a win while Cactus Shadows will be coming in after a defeat.
Mesquite proved they can win big on Monday (they won by three) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Arcadia, sneaking past 3-2.
Mesquite was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 12-25, 25-27, 25-22, 15-11.
Meanwhile, Cactus Shadows didn't have quite enough to beat St. Mary's on Wednesday and fell 3-2.
Cactus Shadows actually scored more points across those five sets (104-103), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 15-25, 15-10.
Loss or not, Cactus Shadows got some senior leadership from Gabby Procopio and Jordyn Fairfield. Procopio had 22 digs and five assists, while Fairfield had 12 digs and two aces. Procopio is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 21 or more in each of the last four games she's played.
Mesquite's victory bumped their record up to 22-5. As for Cactus Shadows, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-4.
