Softball Recap: Holy Cross Has No Trouble Against Riverside

Holy Cross never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against the Riverside Vikings as they made off with a 15-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Crusaders in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won five in a row.

AVA SCHMIDT was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, MIA GALELLA and MEGAN HASSAJ did most of the damage at the plate: GALELLA got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while HASSAJ went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most runs GALELLA has posted since back in March. JULES GALELLA was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Holy Cross always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverside only posted an OBP of .100.

Holy Cross' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Riverside, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holy Cross will challenge Lakeland at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last five games the Chiefs have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Riverside, they will square off against Honesdale at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings are facing the Hornets at the right time seeing as the Hornets are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
