Spring Hill hasn't had much luck against Marshall County recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Raiders will face off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Spring Hill's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 35-0 victory over Battle Creek. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Raiders just coasted through the last quarter.
Lionel Brooks was his usual excellent self, rushing for 255 yards and four TDs while picking up 13.4 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 65 yards. Kasen White helped out on the ground, rushing for 95 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Spring Hill was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 424 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 151 rushing yards in six consecutive games.

Spring Hill's defense stepped up as well, laying out Colten Barba eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Gavin Jacobs and Carson Huffstutler, who racked up 6.5 sacks between them. Spring Hill is undefeated when Jacobs posts one or more sacks, but 0-4 otherwise. Nathan Highland was another major factor on D, picking up 0.5 sacks, making eight total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defending one pass.
Meanwhile, Marshall County had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 50.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three two weeks ago. They really took it to the Indians for the full four quarters, racking up a 50-0 win. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Indians are ranked 304th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marshall County found their leader in sophomore Tot Gardner, who rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. Those 146 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Gardner.
Marshall County's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Spring Hill, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Brooks and Gardner. Brooks just won't slow down this season and has run in 11 touchdowns while averaging 144.4 rushing yards per game. Gardner has been a dominant force too and has run in 8 touchdowns while averaging 66 rushing yards per game.
Spring Hill couldn't quite get it done against Marshall County in their previous meeting back in October of 2020 as they fell 21-14. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
