The George Ranch Longhorns and the Stratford Spartans squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the George Ranch Longhorns had to settle for second. They lost to the Spartans on the road by a decisive 49-34 margin. George Ranch's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
When it comes to explaining why George Ranch lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaden Shelton. Despite the final result, he rushed for 193 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.7 yards per carry. Shelton was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. Hayden Drinkard was in the mix as well, providing George Ranch with two touchdowns.
Aaron Deleon was his usual excellent self, rushing for 89 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 275 yards and three touchdowns for Stratford. Deleon has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrick Mcgee, who rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown.
George Ranch's loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Stratford, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-3.
George Ranch does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Stratford is on the road again on Saturday and play against Summer Creek at 2:00 p.m. on November 25th. The pair might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran up and down the field in their prior games.
