Baseball Recap: Heritage Hills Now 6-1 over Last Seven Games

Heritage Hills won the last time they faced Mt. Vernon and things went their way on Thursday too. The Patriots blew past the Wildcats 14-4. Considering the Patriots have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Micah Toler made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Andersen Smith was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Braden Pruitt was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.

Heritage Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Vernon only posted an OBP of .348.

Heritage Hills is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Mt. Vernon, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

Looking ahead, Heritage Hills will host Loogootee at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Patriots are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Mt. Vernon, they will take on Vincennes Rivet at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
