The Newsome Wolves were the 51-17 winner over the Spoto Spartans when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Newsome suffered a tough 40-18 loss at the hands of Spoto on Tuesday. Newsome has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Spoto to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jayla Griffin, who scored 12 points along with 9 steals and 5 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Griffin has scored at least 25% of Spoto's points. Another player making a difference was Suri Thomas, who scored 11 points along with 4 steals.
Newsome has fallen quite a ways from their 20-8 record last season and are now at 1-3. As for Spoto, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-2.
Newsome will look to defend their home court on Friday against Sumner at 8:00 p.m. Sumner presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Newsome in Florida (Sumner is ranked 115th, while Newsome is ranked 242nd). As for Spoto, they will head out on the road to face off against Plant City at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
