The Avalon Lancers had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They came out on top against Southlands Christian by a score of 70-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Avalon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jacob Mello led the charge by scoring 21 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mello has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Castro, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Avalon's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-14. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Southlands Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.
Avalon the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Magnolia Science Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 24th. As for Southlands Christian, they will head out on the road to challenge Acaciawood at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
