The First Academy Royals posted their closest win yet this season on Monday. They had just enough and edged Lake Gibson out 54-52. Given The First Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while Lake Gibson is ranked 337th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lorenzo De jesus continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Max Simmons, who scored 15 points.
The win makes it two in a row for The First Academy and bumps their season record up to 11-8. As for Lake Gibson, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.
The First Academy will head out on the road to challenge Orangewood Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lake Gibson won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against George Jenkins at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. George Jenkins is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
