The Franklin Knights are taking a road trip to take on the Titusville Rockets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Franklin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Franklin came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Slippery Rock, falling 12-4. The Knights have struggled against the Rockets recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Franklin saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Turner, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. Drew Kockler also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday Titusville's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against Sharon. While the Rockets didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Blake Schmidt was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Schmidt was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Titusville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Titusville pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Franklin, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Franklin has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Titusville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Franklin suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Titusville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
