The Weeki Wachee Hornets will head out on the road to take on the Pasco Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Weeki Wachee is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
Weeki Wachee pushed their score all the way to 60 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 79-60 bruising from Central. While losing is never fun, Weeki Wachee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 572nd, while Central is ranked 148th).
Weeki Wachee's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Donnie Becude, who scored 16 points, and Jean Garcia who scored 21 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Becude has scored all season. Isaac Priester was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Weeki Wachee were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Pasco suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were outmatched by Zephyrhills at home and fell 61-21. Pasco has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Pasco got a solid performance out of Mason Pippin, who scored three points.
Weeki Wachee has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Pasco, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Keep an eye on the arc in Monday's game: Weeki Wachee have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.7 threes per game. It's a different story for Pasco, though, as they've been averaging only 3.3 threes per game. Given Weeki Wachee's sizeable advantage in that area, Pasco will need to find a way to close that gap.
Weeki Wachee beat Pasco 53-41 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Weeki Wachee since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
