The Benton Panthers are ranked highly in their home state, and on Wednesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of the McDonough Warhawks. Benton was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 58-57 to McDonough. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Keenan Gray continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for McDonough, scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The contest was Gray's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Zion Greene, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Benton's defeat dropped their record down to 12-3. As for McDonough, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.
Benton won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Silsbee at 11:30 a.m. on December 28th. Silsbee knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 16 matchups -- so hopefully Benton likes a good challenge. McDonough's road trip will continue as they head out to face Little Rock Christian Academy at 1:00 p.m. on December 28th.
