Softball Recap: Kalama Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Kalama had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Castle Rock Rockets as they made off with a 20-2 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-0 on Tuesday.

Katelynne Jones made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Ada Schlangen was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Colbie Manninen, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Kalama kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matches.

Kalama pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Castle Rock, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-19.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kalama will welcome Woodland at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chinooks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Beavers have averaged an impressive 12.2 runs per game this season. As for Castle Rock, they will be playing at home against Rochester at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
