Sadly, the South Effingham Mustangs are still looking for their first win of the season after 22 games. They were the victim of a rough 84-61 loss at the hands of Brunswick on Thursday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
South Effingham's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chase Seyler, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Will Harlin was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with four steals.
South Effingham used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Brunswick. And. Kaden Carter made the most of the opportunity, scoring 14 points. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Brunswick's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Butler, who scored 26 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Butler has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Craig Battle, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds.
South Effingham's defeat was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-22. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.1 points per game. As for Brunswick, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-14 record this season.
South Effingham does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Brunswick, they will head out on the road to square off against Effingham County at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Brunswick focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday.
