Odem and the Tigers are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Odem Owls will be playing at home against the Goliad Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Odem has now lost 19 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1.
Odem struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Tuesday (the Pirates were 25% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Odem was beaten by the Pirates 49-21. Odem was down 40-11 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the defeat, Odem saw an underclassman step up: Harper Dredla scored 12 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dredla has scored all season.
Even though Goliad has not done well against the Panthers recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Goliad had just enough and edged the Panthers out 38-35. The win made it back-to-back wins for Goliad.
Odem dropped their record down to 2-30 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.3 points per game. As for Goliad, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-16 record this season.
Odem was dealt a bruising 51-7 defeat at the hands of the Tigers in their previous meeting back in January. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Odem was down 26-1.
