Marcellus hasn't had much luck against Mendon recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Hornets at 4:30 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
Marcellus is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They lost 12-2 to Decatur.
Carlyn Deer was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubree Kruger, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Mendon had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They never let the Bobcats get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory. The one-run effort marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
The result came thanks to Ally Butler's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mendon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rowan Allen, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Marcellus' loss dropped their record down to 10-15. As for Mendon, their win bumped their record up to 23-2.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Marcellus has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Mendon struggles in that department as they've averaged .539. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Marcellus suffered a grim 23-0 defeat to Mendon in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
