The Bonneville Lakers will head out on the road to challenge the Farmington Phoenix at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Bonneville is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Woods Cross on Thursday. The Lakers walked away with a 10-6 win over the Wildcats. The victory continues a trend for the Lakers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won eight in a row.
Peyton Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Marley Chournos was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two triples and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Madilyn DeGroot was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Chournos wasn't the only one making solid contact: Bonneville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woods Cross only managed five hits.
While Farmington didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Weber on Thursday as they made off with a 20-10 win. The result was nothing new for the Phoenix, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Farmington got a massive performance out of Kiley Gazafy, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Rogers, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.
Farmington is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.6 runs over those games. As for Bonneville, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 4-10.
Bonneville came out on top in a nail-biter against Farmington when the teams last played back in March of 2023, sneaking past 8-7. Do the Lakers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Phoenix turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
