The Simpson Academy Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 32 points or more this season. They took their matchup on the road on Thursday with ease, bagging a 72-40 victory over Lamar. Given Simpson Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Lamar is ranked 211th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lamar lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jackson Whitcomb, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Salone Elliott was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Simpson Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Lamar, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Simpson Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Jackson Prep at 7:45 p.m. on December 15th. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Jackson Prep sitting on ten straight victories and Simpson Academy on four. Lamar will be home for the holidays to greet Starkville Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
