North Star - Old recap September 24, 2013
Atlanta's Jake Chambers recorded the longest rushing play in North Star - Old this season in his game against Hale last week. Chambers ran for 76 yards on the play and finished with 96 on the day as his team beat the Eagles.
Ty Jones and Travis Powers provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Rogers City. The connection was good for 70 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
Brad Rhoads put up the best numbers through the air as Mio-Au Sable defeated Oscoda. He finished with 9 completions for 171 yards and 4 touchdowns. Rhoads' favorite target this week was seth thomey, who caught 2 passes for 63 yards.
Jones was a passing and rushing force as Hillman topped the Hurons. He completed 9 passes for 224 yards and 3 touchdowns and also ran for 16 yards. Jones' favorite target this week was Powers, who caught 2 passes for 87 yards.
Powers was the best wideout in the league this week as the Tigers defeated Rogers City. Mason VanPamel helped Hillman's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 72 yards.
Kenny Kolcan was the best running back in North Star - Old this week. He ran for 150 yards on 11 carries as Hillman beat Tim Nagy's team. Mike Klein also contributed to the rushing game with 56 yards on the ground.
5-foot-8 quarterback Rhoads of the Thunderbolts is the league leader in passing yards this season with 936. He has also thrown 13 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is VanPamel. The Hillman star has 19 catches for 322 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Mio-Au Sable takes on second place Hillman. Last week, Mio-Au Sable defeated the Owls, while Bill Koenig's team bested the Hurons.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Tigers' VanPamel goes up against Jim Gendernalik's team's iron galer.
The league will see a high scoring game when Hillman and the Thunderbolts face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Tigers comes in having scored 180 this season, while Mio-Au Sable has scored 163. Hillman scored 47 points last week as it defeated Rogers City.
The Tigers scaled the state rankings by moving to 434 from 470 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Hillman was able to move up by topping the Hurons 47-0.
