The Lone Star Rangers are on the road again on Friday and play against the Forney Jackrabbits at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lone Star had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past White 49-14 on the road. Lone Star's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
It was another big night for Collin Blackstock, who threw for 270 yards and five touchdowns on only 19 passes. Another player making a difference was Davian Groce, who gained 91 total yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Forney waltzed into Friday's matchup with four straight wins but they left with five. They claimed a resounding 44-7 victory over Port Arthur Memorial on the road. Given Forney's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Port Arthur Memorial is ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Javian Osborne was his usual excellent self, rushing for 202 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per carry. Osborne has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyle Crawford, who threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Forney's defense and their four sacks. Xzavier Young was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 10-1.
Everything came up roses for Lone Star against Forney in their previous matchup back in November of 2015 as the team secured a 55-13 victory. Will Lone Star repeat their success, or does Forney have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
