The Nazareth Kingsmen came tearing into Sunday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 57-45 victory over Holy Cross. Given Nazareth's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Holy Cross is ranked 258th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Avery Taitt-Christina, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Moreno, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Nazareth pushed their record up to 7-4 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Holy Cross, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nazareth will square off against Archbishop Molloy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Holy Cross, they will head out on the road to face off against Mt. St. Michael Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
